What experience do you need to start?
Experience differs from position to position. Our entry level positions in direct support do not require any previous experience.
What qualification do you need?
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required for entry level positions. In addition, a professional and/or educational reference, an acceptable Criminal Offense Record Information (CORI) check, Fingerprint Check, and a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
Why do I need a license?
All of our Program Sites have assigned vehicles used to transport Program participants to appointments, social events, and community activities. An employee must be able to drive the assigned vehicle.
How old do you have to be to work at The Arc of Opportunity?
The Department of Labor requires employees to be at least 18 to be able to drive as part of their duties (see above).
How do I apply for an open position?
To apply for an open position please submit a resume, cover letter and application through the Available Positions section of our website. Or you are welcome to come to our headquarters located at 564 Main Street Fitchburg, MA 01420 (Our reception area is located on Boulder Drive) to fill out an application in person and drop off your resume.
How long is the application process?
Our recruiter sends an email confirmation in response to all incoming resumes and applications within one week. After an initial screening, a formal interview will follow for selected qualified candidates. During the formal interview process candidates may be asked to visit program sites as well as the headquarters in Fitchburg. References are then checked and an offer is extended. This process can take between 2 to 4 weeks.
How will I be trained?
All employees are trained based on the position they hold. Some of the initial trainings include First Aid and CPR, Medication Administration, Human Rights, Positive Behavioral Supports and program specific orientation.
Where does the money come from?
The Arc of Opportunity is a private non-profit organization. The majority of our funding comes from contracts with Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Agencies. Some programs include cost sharing with the individuals served via program fees. We also have Commercial Enterprises, Fund-Raising events, United Way funding and solicit contributions.
