There is nothing like a weekend of holiday festivities to get us all in the mood for this season of giving and joy! On Saturday, we had the amazing privilege of attending the Theatre at the Mount’s sensory-friendly production of Elf the Musical. Then, on Sunday afternoon, we joined together as a community at The Arc of Opportunity’s Annual Holiday Dinner Dance. The sense of community at each of these events was all around us, and the connections made were inspiring.
As always, the quality of the show at the Mount was second to none, but what stood out for those of us in attendance was the way that so many people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life came together to enjoy this wonderful event. There were people of all ages cheering and singing along with the show, and smiles were shared by all the attendees throughout the day, bringing joy to the lives of all of us there.
On Sunday, the Holiday Dinner Dance brought us together to enjoy music, games, delicious food, and professional-level dance moves together in our most festive holiday wear. The highlights of the night included an epic locomotion dance line, a holiday gift scavenger hunt, and a delicious buffet that brought people up for seconds (and even thirds). My favorite part of the night (besides dancing with great friends) was when our prize-winners decided that they would donate the prizes that they won to our Giving Tree families. I may have had a tear or two over the generosity of that action.
It reminded me that there are so many families out there who can benefit from the generosity and joy that we witnessed in our community this weekend. If you have not yet, please take a few minutes to look at our online gift registry for the Giving Tree and choose a gift for one of our families. So much of this weekend inspired me and I hope that these pictures will inspire your joy and feelings of community this holiday season!
