Mary Heafy assumed leadership as President and CEO of The Arc of Opportunity in North Central Massachusetts August 2009. Mary brings more than 30 years of experience in non-profit management and has a M.A. in Health Care Administration and B.S. in Sociology/Secondary Education with a minor in Psychology. During her tenure at The Arc of Opportunity, Mary has led a successful $5M capital campaign, increased the visibility of the organization in the communities it serves, and established fair compensation for all employees.
Prior to joining The Arc of Opportunity, Mary was Director of Adult Services at The United Arc of Franklin and Hampshire Counties for five years where she focused on the implementation of systems that assure excellence in program delivery and continuous quality improvement. She established a home serving individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and developed a systematic approach to end-of-life care. Earlier in her career, Mary developed a partnership with Lotus Development Corporation/IBM through which individuals with disabilities worked side-by-side with Lotus employees in the manufacturing plant. The program served thousands of individuals during its ten-year history and became the national model for projects in industry.
Mary a past president and current member of the Rotary Club of Fitchburg (MA), serves as a board member of Workers’ Credit Union, and is Vice President of the Northern New England District of the Unitarian Universalist Association. She has one cat, two golden retrievers, two adult children, twenty-eight chickens, and one husband.
